Blackdown Shepherd Huts & Sitting Spiritually at Badminton

Badminton Horse Trials  (Wednesday 1st – Sunday 5th May 2019)  is one of the key events in the equestrian eventing calendar. Not only does this event dominate equestrian news channels, but you’ll see plenty of online coverage, BBC red button coverage on cross country day… and the Shopping Village at Badminton Horse Trials is something else. For the first time ever, you’ll be able to see a Sitting Spiritually Swinging Day Bed at Badminton, over on Blackdown Shepherd Huts’ stand, number 266.

Badminton Horse Trials is set in the grounds of the amazing Badminton House, a privately owned house that’s set in acres and acres of beautiful parkland. For seventy years, Badminton Horse Trials has taken place at this amazing venue, and it continues to grow and grow. It’s one of the best attended outdoor events in the country.

The event revolves around the horse trials, that sees the world’s best event riders and their horses compete for the Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials trophy, and also a prize pot that’s pretty substantial. But in addition to the dressage, cross country and showjumping phases that happen from Thursday to Sunday inclusive, there’s a very impressive outdoor Shopping Village. And that’s where you might find something you recognise!

The Shopping Village is packed with all sorts of brands and items, from clothing to cakes, spirits to showjumps, saddles to silver, and everything else in between. There’s also a spot on Blackdown Shepherd Huts’ stand, no 266, where you can sit spiritually for a little bit if you like, on one of our Swinging Day Beds.

“After we met Martin, we knew that we wanted to take one of Sitting Spiritually’s Swinging Day Beds to Badminton,” said Will Vickery, Managing Director of Blackdown Shepherd Huts. “And we also wanted to design a build a canopy that it could be used with it, so people could enjoy it in all weathers. We set to work and designed a bespoke curved wooden canopy with starlight ceiling and central light, to give people the option of adding a little extra light when enjoying the Day Bed at dusk. We’re delighted with the canopy and we’ve all fallen in love with (and tried out!) the Swinging Day Bed already. We can’t wait to get it to Badminton and let everyone else appreciate its beauty too!”

In addition to the Swinging Day Bed, Blackdown Shepherd Huts has also taken one of its Turnkey Huts for people to come and have a look at. With its pull down bed, stargazer roof window, log burner, shower room and lots of other attributes, the best way to truly appreciate a Blackdown Shepherd Hut is by getting inside one and having a good look around.

“Like Sitting Spiritually, the quality of the materials we use and the craftsmanship that goes into each product we make is so, so important to us,” says Will, “so taking one of our Huts to events like Badminton is the best way for people to really appreciate the attention to detail. Just like with the Swinging Day Bed, we’ll be encouraging people to have a sit down, enjoy the rest, and just take it all in before they hit the Shopping Village again!”

Blackdown Shepherd Huts is on stand 266, which is just by the Mark Todd Big Screen and the Pig & Whistle at Badminton Horse Trials. You’ll be assured of a warm welcome and somewhere very pleasing to sit too!
