Our Swing Seat.....

A customer in East Devon writes for us about their Sitting Spiritually experience....

I first saw the Kyokusen swing seat shown above, in the Sitting Spiritually Garden in 2008 when I was looking for a very special memorial seat. Martin advised me that putting a beautiful swing seat in a school was very unwise! - and so I thought again …. But the beautiful lines of the Kyokusen stayed in my mind for another ten years and many house moves later….

When we moved back to the UK to retire in East Devon and we went to have another look at it in Martin’s garden and decided we would like one exactly the same as his – a four seater we could lie on! My husband who is a geologist at heart, enjoyed choosing the fossils for the arms – even though they weren’t local ammonites! I enjoyed choosing the cushions.

We wanted an inscription, but puzzled for ages over what to put. We eventually settled on ‘No better place to be’ because, after thirty years overseas, we are so happy to be finally able to put down roots!

Basil the Burmese Approves!

We moved the seat three times before we found exactly the right place for it on our terrace – just outside our kitchen door overlooking the garden. It stayed there and was very well-used. However, I had always felt that in order to fully appreciate the dramatic curves, it needed to be seen at a distance with nothing behind it, so it was on the move again, where the magnificent sea view could be enjoyed the the curves of the seat and frame appreciated from the rear.

Having reclaimed some garden back from the brambles, we decided our lovely swing seat deserved its own special place where we could lie and read a book in the sunshine.

A Seat With a View

But, of course, there was one problem…. We missed sitting on it on the terrace! So that led to a purchase of a second Sitting Spiritually Swing seat – a lovely Tranquility oak three seater this time. You may not stop at just one yourselves!

The "arch" of the frame of our Kyokusen, without the seat made a wonderful backdrop to our eldest daughter’s wedding adorned with greenery!
