Eco carpenter and garden furniture
designer Martin Young is the proud designer and maker of high quality,
hand-made wooden outdoor garden furniture that is just as durable as any import, but
made from native British trees local to his business in Lyme Regis.
Martin started Sitting
Spiritually in 2004 after realising there was a real gap in the market for
exceptionally well made and individually designed garden swing seats.
If you were to visit his breathtakingly beautiful garden in Lyme
Regis where examples of all his swing chair designs are displayed, you would
discover them draped in Clematis Montana, tucked away in a private corner,
swinging gently in a sun trap or offering solace in the shade under the
awning on the steps of his Summer House.
Once tried, we know you would agree that these swing seats are
exceptionally beautiful, extremely comfortable and quintessentially British.
Martin’s first choice of
material is always British Oak, strong and durable with a transparent supply
chain of timber from FSC registered forests close to home.
He also uses local Western Red Cedar and treated Pine which he spray
paints in a range of Farrow and Ball Paint colours or any colour of your
choice. His range of single,
two, three or four seat swing seats are designed to hang from a choice of
two ‘A’ frames designs or from trees or pergolas.
Martin’s success has always been built around his two key tenets of integrity and quality and as the business has grown he has sought out highly skilled local carpenters, joiners, spray painters, cushion makers and of course his ever important wife Celia, all of whom live within a 10 mile radius and who form his ‘dream team’. Martin treats each swing seat like a new
member of the family; he oversees every single one before it is despatched
to the customer and he is always available for a chat about how he can help
make your swing bench personal to you, from inlaying ammonites in arms and
backs from the nearby Jurassic Coast, to commissioning a special carving or
simply adding names, dates or messages.
