A brief history of day beds

Day Beds have been around since Egyptian times. The Greeks and Romans also enjoyed them, as reclining during social activities was an activity favoured by both cultures. In Europe, day beds were favoured for the same reasons; the ability to offer comfortable and relaxing seating while remaining socially appropriate. In China, day beds started as small platforms designed to elevate honoured guests above the traditional floor mats and then became seating in Chinese and Japanese homes. Eventually, Chinese daybeds became so ornate that they resembled small, freestanding rooms.

And our Own

We originally designed and made the Swinging Day Bed for a garden designer working on a garden in the South of France, we quickly realised it was a thing of beauty and set about putting it into production in our Axminster workshop.  We launched it at Chelsea Flower Show in 2017 and it was an absolute runaway success and soon we were sending them not only all over the UK, but also to Majorca, Italy, Spain and even Australia!

Meticulously hand-crafted from gorgeous, strong, long-lasting Oak from FSC sustainable sources, renowned for its longevity and strength, it will naturally fade over time to a majestic, attractive silvery grey.
