The Reserve

Late Summer Savings

One-of-a-kind seats, restored from gardens we are proud to be part of, or never delivered.

The Reserve is a small collection of individual Sitting Spiritually pieces, each offered once. Some have spent years in gardens we are proud to be part of, from RHS gardens to great estates, and have come home to our Devon workshop to be restored by the makers who built them. Others are one-off seats, built for a commission that changed and never delivered. Each is offered at a one-off price, below a new commission.

Because every piece is unique, once it is spoken for it is gone. You can buy directly online, or call us on 01297 443084 to talk it through, either way we will be in touch to arrange a delivery date to suit you, and if a piece is still being restored we will let you know when it will be ready.

Frequently Asked Questions

Rated 5.0 from over 400 reviews across Trustpilot and Google

"I'd wanted a Sitting Spiritually swing seat ever since sitting on one at Harlow Carr years ago, and I'm so pleased to finally have my own. It's so comfortable and the quality shines through. It's perfect for relaxing in the garden! I can't recommend the service from the team enough - from my initial enquiry through to choosing the paint colour, then arranging the delivery and assembly. I wouldn't hesitate to encourage others to buy from them."

The Reserve: Commonly Asked Questions

What is The Reserve?

The Reserve is a small collection of individual Sitting Spiritually pieces, each offered once. Some have returned from gardens we are proud to be part of, from RHS gardens to great estates, and have been restored in our Devon workshop by the makers who built them. Others were commissioned, never delivered, and have never left the workshop.

Are these seats new or second-hand? Is there a guarantee?

Both, each story is told on each page. Cancelled-commission pieces are entirely new – built, painted and finished, but never delivered. Placement pieces have lived in celebrated gardens and come home to be restored: cleaned, re-oiled or resprayed, fixings checked, and any worn part renewed by the maker who first built them.

Cancelled-commission pieces carry the same guarantee as any seat we build new – the five-year structural guarantee on oak, and the 25-year Accoya timber guarantee above ground on painted pieces. Restored ex-display pieces carry their own: a three-year guarantee on structural defects on oak, and a twenty-year guarantee on structural defects on Accoya. Every piece is expected to outlive its guarantee by a distance.

Why is the price below a new commission?

Because the piece already exists. You are not commissioning a build; you are taking home a finished seat. Nothing about the piece itself is compromised – it is the same timber, the same hands, the same standards.

How quickly will it arrive?

Sooner than a commission. Pieces in restoration carry a minimum three-week lead; once you order, Nick will be in touch to agree a delivery date to suit you. Delivery is nationwide, with assembly by our own team if you wish.

What if the piece I want has already gone?

Then it is gone – there was one, and someone has taken it home. But while The Reserve remains open, and only while it remains open, we are doing something we rarely do: if a design has been spoken for, you can still order it, and we will craft yours new in our workshop, to the same specification, at the piece's one-off price. When the collection closes, that closes with it, and these designs return to our order book at a new commission's price. If one of them matters to you, do not leave it too long.

Are cushions included?

The price is for the seat and frame as described on each page. Cushions and softs are made to order by Maisie in our workshop and can be added to any piece.

Can I see a piece before buying?

Yes – if you are nearby, you are welcome to visit us in Lyme Regis and see a piece before deciding. Call Nick on 01297 443084 to arrange a time, as some pieces may still be mid-restoration in the workshop.

Will more pieces be added?

No – The Reserve is these pieces alone. Once each has found its home, the collection closes.
