Commonly Asked Questions Around Swing Seats
How long will a timber swing seat last?
A well-made oak swing seat, cared for seasonally, will outlast most garden furniture by decades. Our prime European oak is selected from slow-grown, dense-grained stock and built to weather year-round - mellowing from warm honey to soft silver over time. Every seat carries a 5-year structural guarantee, though many of our earliest pieces are still in use today over 20 years later. For seats that have aged, our refurbishment service restores them to their former quality. Our Accoya range comes with a 50 year above ground guarantee, and 25 year guarantee when set in the ground.
Can a swing seat stay outside all year?
Yes, our seats are built from the outset to live in the British garden through every season. Prime European oak mellows naturally outdoors, developing a soft silver patina over time. Our painted Affinity range uses Accoya®, an exceptionally stable engineered timber with a 50-year manufacturer's guarantee above ground and 25 years in-ground contact - one of the most durable materials available for outdoor furniture. A simple seasonal care routine keeps both ranges at their best; covers are available for those who prefer additional protection through winter.
What back styles are available?
Five styles, each with its own character. The Fan Back is the most classic - its radiating lines feel settled and familiar in a traditional garden. The Slat Back is quieter and more architectural, with a clean silhouette that sits well in both period and contemporary settings. The Curve Back is softly ergonomic, shaped to follow the body naturally. The Swirl Back introduces a touch of lightness and movement - at home among borders and rambling planting. The Heart Back carries a quiet note of romance, originally inspired by anniversary commissions and now one of our most-loved designs. All five are available across every size, at the same price.
What timber is best for swing seats?
Our oak swing seats and day beds are made from prime European oak - FSC-certified, air-dried, and selected for its exceptional clarity and density. Our painted Affinity range uses Accoya®, an engineered softwood modified at a cellular level for outstanding dimensional stability and rot resistance. Accoya® carries a 50-year manufacturer's guarantee above ground and 25 years where the timber meets the ground - credentials that reflect its suitability for fine outdoor furniture built to last. All timber across our ranges is FSC-certified. If you'd like guidance on which suits your garden, climate or aesthetic, we're happy to advise.
What sizes are available - and will one fit my garden?
Swing seats are available in one, two, three and four-seater sizes. As a guide, allow a clear depth of around 1.6m behind the seat for comfortable swing movement, plus the seat's own footprint. If you're placing on a lawn, we recommend setting a paving slab under each leg to protect the timber from ground contact. We'd always rather talk through your space than have you guess - and if you'd like to see a seat before committing, you're welcome to visit our garden in Lyme Regis or find a placed seat near you through our public garden locations.
What does ordering and delivery involve?
Once your seat is commissioned - typically ready within 4–6 weeks - our installation team will deliver it to your garden and assemble it in position. They check that it sits level and swings freely before they leave; the job isn't complete until you've had a moment to settle in and are entirely satisfied. We deliver and install across mainland UK. If you have specific access considerations or are enquiring from outside the UK, please get in touch and we'll advise accordingly.

"The seat is a piece of art"
Sitting Spiritually has been a pleasure to deal with from start to finish. They made sure that we got the product we wanted and there was a real sense of personal service and passion for their work.
The swing seat is a piece of art in itself, beautifully crafted and made with top quality materials, including the cushions.
The swing seat is a real eye catcher and makes a central feature to the garden. Delivery was on time and prompt and set-up expertly performed by a very experienced installer who made sure the seat was just as we wanted it. My only regret is that I did not purchase this lovely swing seat years ago.

Our Swing Bench Design Process
Our swinging garden seats have been ergonomically designed and tested to ensure you always get the best seating position. The fixings allow the chair to subtly adjust as it rocks and sways, maintaining balance and comfort - however long you choose to be seated there.

Influences
Many of our designs are influenced by the sea and countryside around the Dorset Coast. Whilst the egg chair designs may have risen in popularity in recent years, we believe our furniture remains as classic and timeless as ever. With the Jurassic Coast as our influence, we've added subtle accessories such as carvings and inset ammonites. For a really personal touch, we can inscribe words into your new garden furniture. We carefully select each piece of timber to ensure the colour, wood grain and finished shape all work in harmony.
Styles & Options
We have five swing seat ranges to choose from. Once you have decided which best suits you, you'll then need to decide which timber you would prefer. The natural finish of sturdy FSC Oak or the warm, durable Western Red Cedar. Maybe you would prefer to choose the durable Accoya and have it painted to your own specific colour.
We have one seater, two seater, three seaters and four seater swing seats available. We offer such a range to make sure we can make the perfect seat for you.
